First thing to say about me is that I’m NOT a councillor, nor an MP, MEP or party employee. I make an honest living working in a glasshouse growing plants!
I am however “Littlehampton campaign co-ordinator” for the Liberal Democrats so I’ve got to make sure that Littlehampton’s Liberal Democrat councillors keep in touch with their residents, campaign on relevent issues and work together as an effective team.
I love my town - Littlehampton, I think it deserves so much better, that is why I am involved in local campaigning.
I have been involved with the Liberal Democrats since 1992. I was an agent in the 1995 local elections, a candidate in 1999 and agent in 2007, where a record number of my friends from Littlehampton were elected.
I see it as my duty as a key Littlehampton campaigner to hold those elected Liberal Democrat councillors to account, they are all genuine and decent people but they do need support from a friend on “the outside” and it is my duty to make sure that they don’t join the “town-hall club”. I believe strongly that councillors are elected to a council and not elected for a council.
If you want to find out a little bit about historical Liberalism in Littlehampton, I recommend the page I wrote on the local party website http://brl-tonlibdems.org.uk/pages/ltonhistory.html I know it’s not comprehensive but in my “spare time!!!” I am doing research on the subject.
There are of course other Liberal Democrat non-councillors in the town, who help with surveys and leaflet delivery. It is great fun and I highly recommend that people get involved!! (I lost over 1 stone during the 2007 local elections!!) You find genuine friends, meet very interesting people and make life better for everyone in your community.
If you have any questions, and especially local issues don’t hesitate to contact me.
Mark Foster.
