I am a Liberal and proud of it. British Socialism has had it’s day, Conservatism has had to tone down and in Britain we are left with two management teams with little interest in individual liberty, one lot wearing red rosettes, the other wearing blue ones.

I believe we are now living in an open prison. Real prison no longer works mainly because there are very few liberties left to deprive criminals of.

Liberalism means protection from totalitarianism, fascism and communism and the promotion of individual freedom, human rights, the rule of law, tolerance, equality of opportunity, social justice, free trade and a market economy. I believe Britain, Europe and the world need Liberalism more now than ever before.

I envisage a Britain that is free and fair, governed locally where possible and where national politicians sometimes say;- “that is none of the states business”. 

Some of my beliefs are listed below;-

ID Database - Strongly against. I happen to believe that the government belongs to the people NOT the Socialist rubbish that citizens are the property of the state! 

Electoral reform - Strongly for a change in the system! 

Written British constitution - Mildly opposed, elected MP’s should make the laws NOT judges.

Capital Punishment - Strongly Against

Euro - For, I think the Euro is not a matter of IF but WHEN. The only way we are ever going to ensure that the USA and China don’t dominate the 21st century is for Europe to unite and act as a third economic and military superpower.

Prison - I believe that we should move away from destructive and expensive punishment systems into a reparative system where convicts work to repay the damage done by their crimes, obviously that means that dangerous prisoners have to do that behind bars!

Abortion - Moderately pro-choice - I agree with the original argument put forward by David Steel when he decriminalised abortion but I think it’s now time for the time limit to increase.

Monarchy  -For the continuation of the monarchy. We are very lucky in this country to have a head of state that is above politics.
